A Bridgerton Afternoon Tea: Hold a regency-era inspired afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, cakes and tea.

Invite High Society

Transportation to the Regency era starts with your invitations. So grab your quill and paper, and get ready to talk like Lady Whistledown!

Some ideas for your invitations include:

  • Channel the Regency era. Use parchment paper or heavy cardstock to evoke a sense of luxury and give a vintage look. If you’re good with calligraphy, now is the time to show off your skills! If not, use an elegant font and print the invitations instead.
  • Use the Bridgerton language. Start with “Dearest [Guest’s name]” and maintain a formal tone throughout your invitation. Use words such as “thee”, “thy”, and “art”.
  • Include invitation enclosures. Make your invites extra special by including additional elements, such as a small card with a Bridgerton quote, a pressed flower or a little wooden bee.
  • Add a finishing touch. Use wax seals, ribbon, lace or twine on your invitations or envelopes to make your invitations stand out.
  • Style your invite to look like one of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers.

Use Regency-Era Decorations

Whether you’re having an afternoon tea or holding the season’s most anticipated ball, here are some ideas to give your venue a Bridgerton vibe.

  • Place bunches of flowers in ornate vases or in teacups if you’re serving afternoon tea. Bring the romance of the era to your party with popular flowers such as roses, peonies, sweet peas and lilies.
  • Drape your tables in thick and luxurious fabrics. Use a traditional white or add a bit of colour with florals or soft pastels.
  • Add Regency-inspired accents. If you don’t have vintage-inspired furniture, you can still add a touch of the Regency era with decorative fans, Persian rugs and ornate picture frames. You can also add delicate lace doilies, candelabras and flower arrangements to your tables.
  • To add a personal Bridgerton touch, add some decorative bees! The bee motif weaves throughout the series and has become a symbol of the Bridgerton family.
  • Add a pineapple! Pineapples showed a family’s social status and wealth in Britain as it was a sought-after exotic fruit. They are also displayed prominently in season one in a scene between Daphne and Violet.

Dress Like a Duke or a Duchess

Dress for the occasion with some Regency-inspired attire! Wear beautiful gowns and empire waist dresses with delicate lace detailing, puffed sleeves, and romantic ruffles. Dress in fabrics such as cotton, silk or satin in pastel shades, vibrant jewel tones, or channel your inner Penelope and choose yellow. Don’t forget to accessorise with long gloves, folding fans and elegant headpieces.

Gentlemen should attend in tailcoats or frock coats paired with cravats and waistcoats in rich colours and intricate patterns. The Bridgerton men are also fond of their knee-high leather boots! Pair them with white trousers and a top hat for an Anthony Bridgerton look.

You could also take inspiration from the third book, An Offer from a Gentleman, and hold a masquerade ball. Invite your guests to wear masks for an air of mystery!

Serve A Feast Fit for a Bridgerton Celebration

Add authenticity to your party by serving food and drink popular in the Regency era. Don’t forget, the presentation is important!

Bridgerton Afternoon Tea

If you’re holding a Bridgerton-themed afternoon tea, you’re going to need a teapot! Create an impressive display using a tiered cake stand and serve on fine china plates and teacups. Serve a selection of finger sandwiches, including salmon, cucumber, cheese, egg and watercress.

An afternoon tea wouldn’t be complete without fresh scones filled with clotted cream and jam. Serve your scones alongside an assortment of cakes and pastries, such as fruit cake, sponge cake, chocolate tart and lemon drizzle cake. You could also give a nod to Penelope and Colin by serving eclairs!

And finally, she could eat again. It was maddening, considering the amount of food generally on display at ton parties, but women on the hunt for husbands weren’t supposed to exhibit anything more robust than a bird’s appetite. This, Penelope thought gleefully (as she bit into what had to be the most heavenly eclair outside of France), had to be the best spinster perk of all.

“Good heavens,” she moaned. If sin could take a solid form, surely it would be a pastry. Preferably one with chocolate.

“That good, eh?”

Penelope choked on the eclair, then coughed, sending a fine spray of pastry cream through the air.

“Colin,” she gasped, fervently praying the largest of the globs had missed his ear.

“Penelope.” He smiled warmly. “It’s good to see you.”

A Ton Ball

If you’re holding a Bridgerton ball, you’ll want to serve some Regency-era delicacies. Create a beautiful display of food on a long table draped in cloth, and use bowls and stands to present your food at different heights. Some ideas for food include:

  • A display of roast meat, cheese and loaves of bread.
  • Canapés topped with smoked meat or poached salmon.
  • Seafood displays of prawns, oysters, cockles and mussels.
  • Bowls of fruit such as grapes, pears, apples and pineapple.
  • A selection of nuts such as walnuts and hazelnuts.
  • A dessert table with cheesecake, spongecakes, trifle, baked apples, tartlets, meringue, custards and ice cream. Include a show-stopping cake as a centrepiece to your dessert table to give an air of opulence and create an impression!

Along with the food, serve a range of wines and champagne. You can also offer a range of Bridgerton-inspired cocktails like our Lady Whistledown’s Gin Punch. Alternatively, serve punch in a large glass bowl with a ladle so guests can help themselves. It also wouldn’t be a Ton party without Bridgerton lemonade!

A Bridgerton Playlist

One of my favourite things about Bridgerton is the music! It’s also a really easy way to add a Bridgerton feel to your party with its modern-day songs reimagined into classical music. You can find the playlist on Spotify.

Bridgerton Party Games

If you want to add entertainment to your party, here are some Bridgerton-themed ideas!

Dancing

Practice some basic Bridgerton moves beforehand to add some Regency ballroom dancing to your party!

Diamond of the Season

Each season Queen Charlotte chooses a diamond, a debutante who receives the queen’s endorsement as most eligible for marriage. Choose the best dressed or best curtsey, and award them at the end of the evening.

Play Pall Mall

Pall Mall is a competitive lawn game enjoyed by the Bridgerton siblings. Players use mallets to hit a ball through iron hoops in a game similar to croquet. In season two, Edwina and Kate join the Bridgertons as they make their own Pall Mall rules, and it would make a great summer party game. Just make sure to choose the Mallet of Death before Anthony!

Bridgerton Trivia

If you’ve got a bunch of Bridgerton fans at your party, hold a trivia night! All teams must have a Bridgerton-themed name, and all questions must revolve around the show or the Regency era.

Photobooth

If you want photos of everyone dressed up, create a photo booth! Photo booths are not only fun, but they’re a great way to capture the memories of the evening. And yes, cameras weren’t invented in the Regency era, but I think we can let it slide! You can even provide some Regency-era props to fit your Bridgerton party theme!
